Apparently the Wii really helped Nintendo out of a whole. They were not doing that well before they released the Wii, but this revolution in gaming by simplifying the controls, making the gaming more accessible and making it much more physical seems to have taken off big time.

Not surprising that Microsoft have seen this and thought we want a slice of the action. The result, the Natal project.

What has come to peoples attention is that it’s women who have really embraced this new technology. Games like Wii Fit are primarily targeted at women and are very popular with women.

This is good news for the gaming industry as previously computer games were not nearly so popular with women. By making games more popular to women you basically have opened up a whole new market which will probably be worth an absolute fortune to the industry.

I think that the Natal will help to further the popularity of computer games and therefore make the computer games industry even bigger. I think that even old people may even get into computer games more. The fact that you do not have a controller will mean that they will appear much less complicated and will not scare older people off.

If the Wii is anything to go by the Natal will be very popular with girls and this could mean big profits for Microsoft.

The Natal is not out yet for the Xbox and it looks like it won’t be out for sometime. Some people are predicting it could be as late as winter 2010. Who knows.

The big question is this, what games will be compatible with it? Most people who have seen demos of it are blown away by the technology and think that pretty much everything should be natal compatible.

The thing is when you sit down and think about it properly, is this practical? Take a first person shoot em up. In these type of games you often have to jump up kneel down swing your arms about quite a bit. I could foresee a few problems with that. One, space and two, with some of these first person shoot em ups these days it could be absolutely nakering. Games such as Halo are quite nakering games on screen. You make the gamer do the work and they will be quite exhausted after five hours of play time.

Hey its great idea and I think it will be great for helping to get rid of the couch potatoes, but there will be times when you don’t have the space or simply don’t have the energy.

It will be very interesting to see how the game industry embraces this new technology.
